The new six-level student dormitory accommodates 160 beds with kitchens, lounges, baths and study areas throughout. The basement contains the mechanical and electrical equipment. Due to the limited size of the site, close coordination was required between the trades to install the underground utilities. New medium voltage ductbanks, telecommunication ductbank, and underground feeder systems were installed among a maze of underground steam lines and existing ductbanks. A 25kV loop switch and pad mounted transformer were installed to serve the new switchgear. A new 80kW emergency generator supports the facility through three new automatic transfer switches. Lighting controls were installed throughout the building for energy efficiency. The intent of the design was to meet the requirements for LEED Silver certification. This goal was met, with the facility being awarded a LEED Silver certification.
